HTTPS as a ranking signal - Google Webmaster

Google called out multiple times why security is important and how serious they are, Google does invest a lot to make sure all their services are up to date in security aspects with strong encryptions. Name any service like Search, Gmail, Cloud services and Google drive, they all use very advanced secure connections and great encryption technologies.
Google is also making sure when index and crawl any sites they do consider HTTPS is an important pre-requirement in deciding the rankings.
In many instances Google called out "HTTPS everywhere" is a must and it is an important Pre-Req to rank Websites and make your site Google friendly.
We do see nowadays most of the CMS platforms are offering SSL support and it is so dynamic Sites do very minimal glitches in supporting and maintenance of the services.
Google does check not just Https as a pre-Req sometimes it does rank based on Cipher versions, SSL V3 Vs TLS (Recommended is TLS), what kind of encryption do certificates use? etc.
Below are some of the basic tips Google recommend to check,
  • Decide the kind of certificate you need: single, multi-domain or wildcard certificate.
  • Use 2048-bit key certificates.
  • Use relative URLs for resources that reside on the same secure domain.
  • Use protocol relative URLs for all other domains.
  • Check out our Site move article for more guidelines on how to change your website’s address.
  • Don’t block your HTTPS site from crawling using robots.txt.
  • Allow indexing of your pages by search engines where possible.
  • Avoid the no index robots meta tag.
